I am a diet sodaholic. I used to be a straight sugar filled rot your teeth out and expand your gut sodaholic but I had to kick the sugar habit. I was adding too many pounds.
Since I love my diet sodas so much, I always look forward to trying the latest off the wall diet creations. Living in the part of the country that created both Dr. Pepper and Mountain Dew, I have many soda loving brethren close by. Because of that, we end up as a test market for just about anything new in the soda world.
So, right this very minute I am trying out the latest Dr. Pepper product: Diet Dr. Pepper Berries & Cream. It is naturally and artificially flavored with Raspberries and Vanilla. My first impression is, "not bad". I know, I know, berries and cream? Sounds digusting huh? Especially mixed with DP. But really, it isn't bad at all.
It doesn't have the same "bite" as other DP products, but it has enough. And that is very important for a diet soda. No bite, no drink. Like the regular Diet DP, the aftertaste is decent. The berry and vanilla seem to smooth it out. But if you aren't used to diet drinks, you will still notice a bit of the standard diet aftertaste. And while the berry and cream flavors are good, they won't make me forget my grandmother's cobbler with vanilla ice cream anytime soon.
I could see myself tiring of this flavor, but for now, I'll probably have a few more in the future.
