Today on ESPN Radio, Colin Cowherd got into a rant about the "anti-establishment" crowd and how silly and inconsistent they can be. It was really pretty funny and for the most part, spot on. He started cracking on the Bulgarian Beer drinking, indy rocking, "zipper faced", anti-everything crowd and then went on to point out how even they sell out to the establishment at some point.
Here are some of mine. We all know some of these people.
* Some of us have that one friend who just can't drink that crappy mainstream American beer. No, he's too good for a Miller Lite. Yet, he drinks Guinness. How much more establishment can you get than Guinness these days. Come on!
* Some of us know those people who just can't like a mainstream rock band. Nah, they have to rip it and then tell us how good Sufjan Stevens is and that we gotta quit selling out our musical taste. Last I checked, he works for the establishment and sells a few records.
* And what about that guy that absolutely hates his own state's college football powerhouse for no good reason? No, I'm gonna hate the Tennessee Vols and root for someone like West Virginia or Notre Dame instead cause it makes me look cool. Traitor. Come on!
* Then there is the guy who thinks he's all cool with his 10g earrings and then turns around and works in slacks and polo's for a large hospital chain. Oh, wait, that's me. Umm...
* Then you have the goth and punk folks, and I have nothing against you being goth or punk if you want to be. But what does bother me is that you want to be so "rebel" while spending lots and lots of money on all your garb. Come, I know those black pants big enough for a small child to live in comfortably with 143 zippers aren't cheap. And you can't get them at the Salvation Army. Spending all that money is taking part in the establishment and making them very rich. Ha!
* Oh, and how about this one. What about the suburban white kid who has to look, act, and talk like what HE THINKS is "black", rages against the man with the guys rapping who have lived through hell, yet he himself lives in a 600,000 dollar house and gets everything he wants. Oh, and when he runs into black people in person, he's scared to death. Poser. Come on!
Anyway, you guys have some good anti-establishment inconsistencies?
