What a few days I’ve had with my kids…
I’ll start with Ricky’s game. He played so well and for him, with lots of attention. He’s playing First Base this year and I had wondered how well he was going to do at a position where he’s see so much action. Well, I wonder no more.
As I stood next to the fence watching, a coach from a team that was playing next stopped and said “Where did they find that kid, number 12 over there, to play first base? He’s made some unbelievable plays. Did you see him stretch across and drag his foot over the base to make that one out? Somebody is really working with him. I haven’t see a kid this age do something like that!”
At that point, with much pride, I told him they found him at my house, that’s MY boy. He smiled and said I had quite a ball player there! I can not tell you how good that made me feel. With all the problems we’ve had with his attention span and maturity, it was great to get this “win”. A few minutes later he doubles home the tying run in the bottom of the last inning with 2 outs. The game had to end in a tie because of the time limit, but it was awesome nonetheless. He was all smiles on the way home.
We headed home and I picked up Riley to go for his first run with me. We were shooting for a mile since he’d never really been on a run longing that once around the track. He is 6, so I was afraid of getting too far from the car and that he’d get tired and whiny. He shocked me when we finished the first mile and he was ready to keep going. We end up run 2 miles, the second of which was a minute faster than the first. He had people on the Greenbelt clapping and encouraging him. He loved the attention It was awesome!
This all came after a great weekend with the girls. Zxyan has struggled so hard with math and really needed a good score on here latest test. No big deal that she has had trouble. Most of us have a subject that kicks our tail. Well, she got a B on the test and was beaming from ear to ear and thanking Jesus! It was nice to see her so happy about something she worked hard on and did well with. I can hardly believe that she is only two years from graduation now.
Then, Briannah had her first ever softball game Saturday. She loves sports and played her heart out in basketball this year. She brought the same intensity to the diamond. She fielded her position like a champ and hit the ball hard. I think She, more than any of the kids, enjoys doing well because she puts so much into it. She wants to be a good player and teammate and always does what it takes.
I am so proud of my kids. I obviously don’t need them to do well to love them, but I like to see them do well because of what it does FOR THEM. In a span of 4 days I got see each one have a personal victory and was able to celebrate those victories with them. I'm grateful and humbled to have these 4 unbelievable gifts.
