An American

I ask, from the bottom of my heart, that every single person who reads this post of mine -- no matter which candidate you support -- to please read the following article:

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aW_Qty8aiVTo&refer=us

Please read it carefully because the "New Politics" have arrived and I don't know that anyone saw it coming. This article isn't for or against any candidate.

It outlines how this election has changed the face of American politics forever through databases on the Internet, containing personal information voluntarily given at the time of donation, which can now be sold to the highest bidder in furtherance of their political goals.

Power-brokering in Washington has reached a terrifying new height, with ramifications that will last for years to come. Our elections will no longer be "free" ... the voters will be systematically manipulated to serve the ends of whomever purchases their name from the list. This power exceeds any lobby, any coalition, any PAC ... it surpasses them all in its power.

We need to stand up and speak out against this before it's too late.

Forgive me for being long winded. I have been reading your posts all week so all of this is a build up of my thoughts regarding it all...
I am so tired of the mud slinging. I will be glad when the candidates are in place so we can simply choose a president.
At first it was said that a black man was not smart enough, not educated, lacking a big enough perspective and not aware enough to run this country. His “blackness” was seen as “black, african-american”people have been systematically viewed – as being ignorant and unaware, less than, inferior at best. Then when Obama came around with his Ivy League education, his worldly perspective, mixed race family and world travels, this news harmed and hindered him, as well as made him gain a following. He proved his ability with finances and the fact that he could hang with the rest of the candidates with regard to funding for his candidacy. The attacks shifted and suddenly it was said, “Well, he is out of touch with the common man” as if to suggest that he was not really “black” (black being whatever the media defines as an average black person). He was called an elitist and suddenly his perspective was challenged as being too narrow, and only focused on others who were on his level economically and intellectually.

When Ford, Carter Reagan, Bush, and Clinton said they were Christians no one went to their churches to check their theological stances. In fact, I cannot remember it even being said what specific churches these people attended. Now not only have we as a country focused on what this one particular pastor has said, but we have brought this whole issue of the black church versus the white church. It is simply one more tactic to chip away at Obama’s legitimacy. “Ok, he says he’s a Christian but is he a real Christian? What is this foreign thing known as the black church? Will we be able to relate to him or HIS Jesus different as ours? He may be a Christian but will that be good enough for us to elect him?” I have been to plenty of churches where I did not agree with the teachings, attitudes or the focus of what was being presented. This is one big reason there are so many denominations of churches and while in this instance the media is centered on the black church, lets not forget that other nationalities segregate their churches as well, Asian, Hispanic, etc. The fact that Rev. Wright is in the media does not surprise me because the drama of creating a news story makes money for all media circuits.

Fact is Obama is still a black man and there are many in this country who will not vote for him based on that fact alone – regardless of his education, ability to relate to many or few, his religious views or lack of. Fact is – all of this is more complicated because you have two people vying for candidacy that in doing so, open doors that have never been opened. No matter who wins there will still be a candidate that will be the first black man to run as a front-runner for president or the first woman to run as a main candidate for president. Fact is, we as a country have so much to address with regard to issues of gender and racial equality and yet instead of doing that and addressing our shortcomings as people and as a nation, we have instead focused on character traits and surface issues that distract from the real issues at hand.

Let’s gather some perspective here because it is obvious that the media would love to get is all worked up in a frenzy. And while I can’t speak about Rev. Wright (I have not heard or seen enough to make a clear decision) I would not want to. I think this pastor is just a distraction from the bigger picture. I’m sure I could list all of the contradictions presented for Hillary Clinton as well, if given the chance. My point is lets employ some critical thinking here and consider all of the players involved in this race (there are far more than 3 candidates involved in stirring up the stories that we are fed).
