When we left off, I had proposed, Evette had accepted and we began planning our wedding. Neither of us had our own place, so In December we began apartment shopping. This takes us to our first 'issue' as a couple.
The first apartment we went to check out was decent and fit us financially. I arrived first and made sure I looked my best. The owner and his wife immediately liked me and began talking as if I lived there already. Another couple showed up at the same time as Evette, both white, and the owner immediately gave us the cold shoulder and hardly said another word to us the rest of our time there. As we left, he said he'd call. Of course he never did. So I called him. He gave some lame excuse about a better prospect.
We found another place and I went alone. It was close to my family, and a steal of a deal. It went well and I told the guy I wanted the place. It was raining, so we sat in his truck as I filled out the paperwork. He says, "Now let me tell ya something, there's a black fella that will be next door to you. I hope that isn't a problem. He's a really nice guy." I laughed so hard on the inside I nearly burst. Imagine the landlord's surprise when he came to replace a water heater 6 months later and finally met Evette. :)
So we had a place and I got Evette and Zxy moved in around New Years and I continued to stay at Dad's until the wedding. The wedding was very humble, but both families pitched in on everything and it turned out to be a wonderful time. I am sure Evette could give a much better run down on the wedding and I'll have her do it at her site.
So, here we are 11 years later. Today is our anniversary. In some ways it's been a long 11 years. I remember the first year and how sweet it was. I remember year three when I didn't think we were going to make it. I think of our children's births and buying our house. I think of 2 job layoffs and now being on my 4th different job since being married. It's amazing to me how much has happened and how much has changed. But there is one thing I promise hasn't changed. I love my wife. I love her with all my heart. I'm glad she puts up with me and I hope she appreciates me returning the favor. :) Just kidding. I got the better end of the deal by miles.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY....I LOVE YOU...WE MADE IT AN ENTIRE DECADE!

Cheers to you both! Did you really only check out two places in your apartment hunt?? Derek and I could really relate to this story. We were turned down about 12 times! One guy even tried to say he couldn't remember how much he was renting the place for "So maybe you should just give up on this place. I don't know if it is right for you..."
Glad to know you got through it and all is well... One decade strong! I applaud you both!
