TallSkinnyKiwi Andrew Jones posted yesterday about what he means when he talks about the Emerging-Missional Church. This is the kind of post and the kind of idea that gets me excited. It's not just an inward expression of church and it's not just an outward expression. It combines both ecclesia and mission. It combines a contextual response to culture with Missio Dei, the Mission of God.
As Andrew says, "The term, "emerging-missional church", favored by Australians and Kiwis, seems to tie together the two strands of missio dei and missio ecclesiae in one phrase. Without the missional, emergent is just style. Without the emergent, missional pours the new wine backwards into old containers, and often without regard to context."
I'm not an Aussie or a Kiwi, but this is the kind of church I want to be a part of.
